Bio
I am the favorlist administrator, and I want to say welcome to everyone here!

My wife, Grethel and I have built this from the ground up.

Favorlist started over a year ago with the goal of becoming a favor exchange community as well as one devoted to buying and selling local services.

In recent months we have shifted our focus to emphasize the exchange of favors. We believe that it can be an exciting and addicting community to be involved in. At some point in the future we will introduce the local service features.

What happened to the site??
Our server company crashed it by changing the IIS settings on the site. I'm amazed that you could post something during that time. It took 3 days of wrangling with them to get everything reset, but WE'RE BACK...and WE MISSED ALL OF YOU!!!!

Favorlist 2.0
Sometimes when you have so many improvements to make to a house, it's best to tear it down and build it over again. This is the point I've feel we've reached with FavorList. Not in as far as the concept or the community is concerned, but the navigation, look, and feel of the site is in dire need of upgrading. So the time has come to bring about FavorList 2.0. We need your help! We want to know what are those things that YOU'D like to see the next version of FavorList do. Below are a list of improvements already in the works: - Graphical Makeover (the only thing you may still recognize will be the logo!) - Navigation Makeover - Clear, Simple navigation - Searching - The new version will work in conjuction with the Google Maps API and allow you to see the general location of favors and members near you! - Favor Negotiation - Cleaner, easier to understand page - Favor Reminders - Automatic "Status" emails will be sent out to remind users of favors they have promised, or favors they have not left feedback for What else would YOU like to add to the list?? When we get a BETA version going, I'll post the link to it here. Thanks! -Stephen

Gooner, I noticed that the only thing holding this favor back from the credits being transferred was the fact that skye did not upload a photo. I went ahead and verified the favor anyway. I'm sorry it was a rough first experience and I hope that you are able to have a positive experience soon. -Stephen

Posted in forum:Favor Experiences - Not a good experience for 1st favor!

Right now this is our plan. We'll have the members go to the anysoldier site, and do everything outside of favorlist. (They register there, get an address, put together the care package, take a picture and send it off....) Then the member will upload the photo to the Favorlist negotiation page. After you do that, please send me a note (either PM or a Contact US) and I can make sure the credits get transferred to you. That's what we're doing until we can get a better solution.... -Stephen

Posted in forum:General Chat - went to anysoldier.com

Actually one thing you can do is do a "counter offer" for a reasonable amount of credits. So instead of clicking "accept" you can reply back by entering in something in the "make counteroffer" with something that makes sense.

Yeah, got your message, sorry! I just replied back :D

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - Widget Question

Txblndee, I'm really sorry to hear that. It IS incredibly rude not to leave any feedback or respond in any way. I am going to expedite this new process and feature to keep this from happening in the future. It really shouldn't be your responsibility to feel like you have to bug the other member and find out "Hey did you get my package???" It should be the site's responsibility to do that. So I'm going to get this feature added ASAP. Once again I'm really sorry you had to deal with that. I THANK YOU for doing that favor... -Stephen

Have you seen this work with other widgets? I think that you could possibly copy and paste the entire code into the signature of an email sent in HTML format....but I'm not sure if that would work.... I'll try and test it myself and let you know what I come up with....

PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!!!
The only thing a member wants when they do a favor is a sign of appreciation and gratitude. It's the only polite thing to do. When you get your favor, sign on and leave feedback on the Favor Negotiation page. I am developing a new system for FORCING members to leave feedback in an effort to reward our members who do things out of the goodness of their hearts with the feedback and credits they deserve. Effectively, this is how it will work. A member who has an accepted favor will be able to mark that favor as done. The favor will be marked as "Done in person" or "Mailed". At this point the other member's account will be frozen and the only thing they will be able to do will be to leave feedback or upload a photo. They will not be able to read or respond to messages or do anything else on the site. However if the favor was marked as mailed, there will be a 7 day grace period after which the account will be frozen. Also, notification emails will be sent out by the system prompting members to leave feedback. Additionally, a rating system will be added in addition to the feedback system. My hope is that this will help create a community where we can enjoy doing things for each other and not be spoiled by a few rotten freeloaders. Happy Favorlisting to All! -Stephen

I made a fix to the search feature (there was some problem with the pagination). However you may be searching for items that are not available in your current area. If you are still having problems, let me know what item you are searching for. Thanks!

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - Searching Problem

Betty, Yes, when you respond to a favor both yourself and the other member are sent an email notification. So she should have received that email that you were offering to do a favor for her. There is the standard "Send a care package to the US Troops" favor on the front page.... Unfortunately, these favors are somewhat on hold now, because we're having some issues with the partner website. I should probably take that favor down, but I'd rather just see all the people who are willing to do that, and respond to them all at once. Just know that is an issue being worked on right now. I would try and find other people who are requesting favors in the meantime.

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - how do I know if I am going to get a response

This member requested that their account be deleted. I'm not sure why. Maybe there was a safety concern and they were too afraid to meet???

Posted in forum:Favor Experiences - not showing up

Favorlist is a community of (now) almost 3000 people who are happy to help each other. These forums can be a venue for members to make requests above and beyond the typical list. If a member browses the forum and wants to help out another then that's absolutely encouraged. However, this is not an appropriate place for ranting and venting frustrations about anything other than our favorlist community. There are plenty of places online about that. I take criticism every day about the site, and make improvements based on most of them. In fact I left all of your criticisms about the site. Our members do favors out of the goodness of their hearts. Just because they are generous, I will not allow them to be abused and taken advantage of. Nor do they need to feel like because they don't give away a high end gaming computer system they are contributing to a person's suicide. That's not what favorlist is about. It's about give and take. Every member can give something. No matter what your situation is. We all have been given a gift of time if nothing else and can use that to help someone else out. Favorlist is completely voluntary. There is no membership fee. Accounts can be deleted whenever you desire. In fact you can delete your own account from the "Edit my Profile" page. Alternatively you can stick around, be a positive member in our community, and simply ask for help upgrading your computer. It's up to you.

Where Oh Where did my Favor Go?
Was it a favor you checked...or was it one you requested to be added to the list? The ones that are being added to the list or still under review...

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - Where is my favor?

Confusing
EZ, I'm sorry you find the site confusing. We are working on a tutorial to help people with the navigation. The reality of the favor match system is that you can see the favors and the people who are close to you. If you click on a person's picture or name, you're taken to their profile. If that person didn't put any content on their profile...then there's not much to look at. If instead of clicking on the person's name you click on the favor itself...then you are taken to the favor negotiation page, where you can respond to that favor. As far as your post, I edited it so that we can stay on topic here. -Stephen

You will have to resize them using a graphic editing program. One of my favorites (which is a simple, small program) is irfanview. You can download it for free here: http://www.download.com/IrfanView/3000-2192_4-10667331.html?tag=lst-0-1

RE: Need more people
I'm thinking we could implement a few features: - A member who gives a favor can mark a favor as "done". This would then "lock" the member who received the favor and prevent them from doing anything on the site until they leave feedback and/or upload a photo. Most likely when they log in, they would be taken to the page where they can leave the feedback/photo, and remove the restriction. - Email Reminder system. This will send reminder emails allowing members to mark a favor as "done", as well as respond to those favors. - Restructuring the Favor Transaction page. Most likely we'll pull the feedback and photo uploading to separate pages to make it more "user friendly" from a navigation perspective. What do you guys think?

RE: Need more people
Wendy, You make a great point. I know the member you are talking about, and I sent her a note requesting her not to spam members. I would like to set up a better rating system for members to allow users to give kudos or negative marks on members who don't "behave well" in the community. What do you all think?? Also, that feedback is VITAL for members DOING favors. What can we do to encourage or require it? Any thoughts? Thanks guys! -Stephen

RE: Need more people
Smoky, Sorry to hear that. We do have a process for removing abusive members. We want to have a giving community, but we don't need to have "pestering freeloaders"! (That may not be very PC to say, but I'm not that PC anyway) The idea for me is that everyone gives and takes together. Even those that have nothing can give their time and do something small for someone else. So as far as the OUT there requests, feel free to let me know when you get something strange. In fact, one new member recently emailed eveyone in their state trying to trade massages. We felt that was not in keeping with the safe and giving community we want to have so we removed him. (FYI, we do monitor the favors and messages to protect our members) Anyway, that may be too much information, but I hope you are able to have a positive favor exchange with someone in the near future.

RE: Need more people
Great! Also, we are in the process of building a MySpace widget to show your favors. We hope to have that available in the next few days. Until then, here is a quick and dirty code you can use:

RE: NEW MEMBER SAYS HELLO
Thanks for joining new members! We experienced extreme server overload last Friday. We also had a couple of bugs that were uncovered in the process. I'm sorry to you members who experienced difficulty during that time. I'm writing a tutorial to hopefully help new members see how to use the site. I hope to have that up shortly. Thanks for your patience and for using favorlist!

Posted in forum:Getting Started - NEW MEMBER SAYS HELLO

RE: adding catagory
Actually you can suggest a category when you suggest a new favor. The rule for a new favor being approved is: - Is the favor and category general enough that more than one user can do the favor or wants the favor? - Is the favor safe for members to do? For example: Housesitting (general enough, but probably would not be approved for safety issues) Siberian Husky Education (not general enough) Golf Lessons (Perfect!)

RE: General Faq
Being a verified member is actually not a requirement for using the site. You can exchange favors even without this. You will have to leave feedback and upload a photo for each favor you participate in (as will the other member). This is currently the only way we have to validate that a favor occurs between two real and different people.

RE: Uploading Photos?
Here's how to do it: 1) Make sure you are logged in 2) GO to "Account History" to see the favors that you did and click on the favor that you need to upload the photo for. 3) On that page you should see the upload photo box. There is where you can upload the photo for the favor.

Posted in forum:General Chat - Uploading Photos?

RE: General Faq
When someone promises to do a favor, but doesn't do it: 1. From the account history page, send a friendly reminder to do the favor. 2. Once the time of the favor expires, we track that a favor they promised to do expires. (I'll make this statistic available on each person's profile - i.e. How many favors expired) 3. You are free to leave bad feedback when you have a bad experience (Please DO!). If they were unresponsive then leave feedback to that effect. (I will allow users to leave responses to negative feedback) When a favor negotiation stalls, you can now reject the favor (from the favor negotiation page) and it will be removed from the list.

RE: New Features
MORE NEW FEATURES!!! New Features! 1. Tell a Friend from the home page - We have created a feature to allow you to send a friendly email to friends with a link to favorlist.com 2. Send a favor to a friend - This feature allows you to to send a friendly email with a link to a specific favor. To do this, navigate to the favor, and click "Send Favor to a Friend" 3. Account History Page - I have cleaned up the layout to make it more readable 4. Friendly Reminders - You can now send a friendly reminder to someone to ask them to do a favor they have promised to do. If not, the favor will expire. This will clear the favor from "Accepted Favors" on the account history page. The other member has the opportunity to log in and go to the favor page and send a notification that they still want to do the favor. If they send that, then the favor will no longer expire. 5. Reject Favors - You can now reject "offers" on the favor negotiation page. If you reject all the offers, then it will be cleared from the "Active Negotiations" on the account history page.

RE: New Features
That is a great point! I can also help if necessary :) We could also ask people to put the favorid on the package. Then you can get to the favor easier. If the favorid is 22 then you type: http://www.favorlist.com/favortrans/22

RE: Participation and Respect
I'm working to add a reject favor feature that will clear these up from the list. Also we may need to add a couple more to handle the other situations such as "no response", "empty promsie" etc. This may work hand in hand with a favor reminder feature I'm planning as well. Your thoughts and input are welcome as well.

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - Participation and Respect

Site Features
I'm working to add the following features and would love your input to the questions below: -Coming Features- 1. Tell a friend - A link on the front page taking someone to a simple email page that will send a text email saying they liked the site and want to recommend it. 2. Limits when you view favors - Currently if there are 189 people who are willing to bake cookies, you will see all of those when you navigate there - sorted by their proximity to you. I'd like to break those into smaller pages that you could navigate through. This will improve the site's performance. 3. Favor of the Month - A seasonal/holiday favor that someone can add to their list easily from the front page. (For example in February we could showcase a favor of sending valentines to other members including chocolates or cards. Someone would just click if they could do that favor or wanted that favor.) 4. Aids to help clean up the validated/accepted favors - We need the ability to "decline" favors as well as a chance to send a friendly reminder to see if a favor was done. If it doesn't get done or responded to within a certain time period the favor should be cleared. I would love your input on the above ideas as well as your thoughts on the questions below: 1) Does the layout on the front page make sense? 2) Is there anything that turns off a random visitor from joining the site? 2) If you could improve something on the site what would it be? I can't think of more questions right now, but I will and I'll post them here! :) Thanks for being great members! -Stephen

Posted in forum:Favorlist Site and Business Group - Site Features

Welcome to the Favorlist Site and Business Group!
Welcome! If you can read this, then you've been invited to join this group. This is a private group where only invited members can join and read the posts. I wanted to create this group to talk to the members I trust the most to help us grow the site (and company) the right way. In this area we can talk about site features as well as business concepts for the site. Over the past couple of weeks I've worked to add features that help improve the social experience of Favorlist. We had a instant messaging system that did not receive enough traffic. It was also a bit disconnected from the site so it didn't work very well. As a method of replacing that, I added a way to see the lastest member activity and the ability to fire off a quick message to them. When the receiving member accesses another page on the site they get a pop up window with YOUR message. This made more sense to me, and I often hang out in the Who's online page to see who's available to chat with. This is an example of site feature improvements that I can work to continue. We also have several goals for the site in a business sense. The site currently does not generate any revenue. However, we recently joined an ad network to show ads from the site. Currently we get about half the traffic we need to in order to viably make money selling advertising. We hope to get there and create a fund with which to help out needy members. One of our long term goals is to add the ability to this (or a sister site) to exchange the same "favors" for real money. This would enable members to actually earn something to help them in a time of need, while serving as a site where someone can get a local service with quality feedback. Of course we don't want to comprise what we stand for - "doing unto others" I genuinely belive that giving is the best way to receive. As those of you who've been invited here know, it's a great feeling you get doing a favor for someone else. When you see their appreciation - it's almost like a drug. Thanks for being great members and for your belief in the vision of this site! -Stephen

- Favor negotiation emails have been corrected. - You can leave feedback on someone's profile if you have done a favor with them

RE: New Features
Feature Update! Newest Feature! - See Who's Online! You can view all the members who are online and what they're doing. - Quick Message System - If you want to send a message and chat, you can click on the button 'Send Quick Message' (from the who's online page) and send them a message. When that member accesses another page they will get a pop-up window with YOUR message! It's a great way to chat as you're enjoying the site without having to log into the IM system (that no one really used). This is simpler and easier. Features to be released shortly: 1. Ability to leave feedback from the profile page 2. Ability to TURN DOWN a favor negotiation and clear it from your active negotiations without having to remove it from your favorlist. 3. Favorlist Reminders - Ability to send a friendly reminder if a favor negotiation has stalled. 4. Correction to favorlist negotiation emails. We will be overhauling this system so the emails are less confusing. :) Thanks to all the members for your suggestions and patience!

Posted in forum:Site Improvements - New Features

RE: New Features
Thanks for the input! I'm sorry that the emails aren't worded correctly. There are actually 4 different roles someone can have when they're involved in a favor, and so initially it's been difficult to word the emails correctly. But i'll put that on the top of my list of issues to fix... Feedback on the profile page is a great idea! I'll add that too. When you have an accepted favor with that person, I'll make the feedback box appear. Thanks again for the ideas :)

Happy New Year!!
I've just gotten back from vacation during the holidays and I see there is a ton of work to be done here on Favorlist! I'm ecstatic that we've made it to over 900 members (although I was hoping to hit the 1000 mark before the new year - we'll get there soon though!). I'm working hard to put together a viable marketing plan that will help spread the word about the site. Up until this point we've mainly been posting on forums and other sites to help bring in new members. Most new members have been individuals who've browsed to the site The challenge with marketing the site is the cost. Currently, we don't have advertising on the site because the traffic is about half of what it needs to be. I would like to have professional ads on the site (i.e. no google text ads) and for that you have to have certain traffic benchmarks. So that being as it is, all of the marketing (including gift cards) comes from my personal pocket - which is quite limited ;) However we're planning to use that limited budget to create some marketing materials to give out to members who want to help spread the word (Thanks ShelleyG and SeriousDisturbed!!). We're planning on getting T-shirts made, flyers, business cards, signs, stickers, and pens made up and will be giving those out as marketing packages to select members who want to participate. Also we're going to invest some money in radio advertising and we're working to create a XM radio commercial. If you want to participate, record your own commercial or record yourself telling us your experience and send the audio file to radio@favorlist.com I'm really grateful to everyone here who has been one of our early members. You've suffered through errors, growing pains, and have given great feedback for site improvements. You guys are what this is all about. Other members have really inspired me by how giving they are. I hope that as more members receive feedback and the statics become more precise over time, that members can see who is being a "freeloader" and reject them. For example, someone who wants stuff but isn't willing to offer anything is a "freeloader" and the community should not do that person any favors. From a site perspective we could have made it so members have to earn their initial credits, but then no one would have been able to do anything for each other. I suppose there are a few solutions to dealing with freeloaders. In the future we could offer less initial credits to new members (thereby rewarding the initial members for tolerating the growing pains), as well as create the need to new members to actually DO favors in order to receive them. Another option is to somehow label members as freeloaders by flagging. I'm really excited to see what this new year will bring. Even though Christmas is now over, I hope the spirit of giving continues here. Happy New Year and God Bless!

Great...solved then. Every member will automatically be enrolled in the program and be able to see their referral url on their "Edit Profile" page. We'll give away a favor credit for every new member referred.

Referral System
There has been some interest lately in introducing a referral system to help grow the membership at favorlist. We have the capacity to track and award referrals already in place. However we need to figure out the best way to "incentivize" members to refer others. Since the site (currently) does not generate revenue, we have a very limited budget. We could give away favor credits for referrals... are there any thoughts/ideas from you guys??

Favorlist T Shirt
We want to create some favorlist T-shirts but want some good ideas for what should go on them. Submit your ideas and the best one gets a free one! Here are some thoughts: "You look like you need a favor" "if only favors grew on trees" "if you were a favor, what favor would you be?"

You can 1) do your own commercial, or 2) Give us a testimonial and we'll use it in a "testimonial montage" commercial Record whatever you want in an mp3 format and send it to us at radio@favorlist.com . Just another feature to help protect your privacy and make favorlist a safer and better place.

RE: $5 Grand Opening Giveaway
This question has been coming up several times, so thanks for posting it. Here's what needs to happen: 1) If both users are cell phone validated, then the user who receives the favor needs to go to the favor negotiation page and leave feedback. 2) If only one (or none) of the users are cell phone validated, then both members must upload a photo of the favor being done as well as leave feedback. Once either #1 or #2 is done, then the favor is internally validated (this happens within minutes) and credits are transferred, and the starbucks card will be sent within a day or so. You can tell if you favor has been validated by looking at the checklist on the favor negotiation page. When the last item has a checkmark, then your favor is validated!

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
UPDATE: As an addendum to my previous post, I need to institute a requirement for the member RECEIVING the favor to leave feedback. This will help prove the favor was actually done. So...if two members are cell phone verified, the receiving member needs to leave feedback and the credits will be transferred (and promotional gift cards will be sent).

Great job dreampeddler! Thanks for joining and being an active member! Please send a private message to me with your real name (to go on the envelope), and I will use your address on file (you can edit it if you need to in the edit my profile page) . I will send out your starbucks card today! FYI to everyone, I removed the requirement for two "cell phone" verified members to leave feedback for each other, and this is why Dreampeddler's favor was not automatically internally verified. However please leave feedback anyway - it makes us all feel warm and fuzzy!

Snooky, So glad you got your package. Please post the photos (when you are able) on the favor negotiation page and leave some good feedback for natorsgrl there as well. ALso, if you have a cell phone, you can get cell phone validated and help her get her starbucks card a lot faster (she won't have to wait for the photo and feedback). Way to go Natorsgrl

RE: confused
You don't have to post anything. You just have to follow the steps - both members have to be cell phone validated OR both have to upload photos and leave feedback. THis is done on the favor negotiation page.

RE: General Faq
Feedback is left on the favor negotiation page after you complete the favor. Once the favor has been accepted by the other member, you will see the option with the box to leave feedback.

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
First of all WELCOME to FAVORLIST! Thanks for joining! You can do favors for whatever amount of Favor credits you choose. Members start with 100. So if you post a favor and are want more than 100 you will not get much of a response. Currently the value of the credits are determined by the community. Our current "rule of thumb" is that 1 credit is worth roughly $1. However, there is no way to convert between the two so that's not enforced. If you do a favor and want something in return (gas money, fees, etc.) you will have to negotiate that with the individual member. I hope this answers your question.

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?

RE: New Features
The newest feature on favorlist today is the ability to get verified by text message! We can send a text message to your cellphone with a verification code. You put that code in and within minutes you are a verified member! No more feedback and photo requirements (of course we LOVE it when you post feedback and photos). However, when two verified members do favors, credits are transferred instantly (and starbucks gift cards go in the mail that day).

Thanks for joining Star! If you feel more favors should be added to the list, then we want your submissions! Go to "Edit my Favorlist" and scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see a submission form that you can complete to submit a new favor for approval. Our criteria for approving favors is - Is it legal? Does it keep with the safe and family atmosphere of our site? And is it something that more than one person could possibly do or want? If the answer is yes - then it gets approved. Once favors are approved you will see the new favor appear on the main list on the front page (as long as someone has said they will do or want that favor - which you can do at the time you submit it for approval) Thanks again and Welcome to Favorlist!

RE: responding
Great question. Most members don't want their addresses public. Currently, when a favor is "accepted" you will see a box you can use to send messages to the other member. That is where you can send them your physical address. I will create a button that will allow you to send your physical address to the other member.

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
THis is a relic still in the terms and conditions. Favorlist is 100% free. At one time we were looking to also list local services that members could buy and sell from each other for real money and make a commission from that. We have done away with that model for the time being. There is no "buyer" or "seller" or commission, but there are members who do favors (like a seller) and members who want them (like a buyer) and "pay" with their favor credits.

RE: Any questions

RE: privacy
Actually, having many of the details of the favor being public makes the site easier to use for new members. It's also good for users to see what favors are being traded. However, your privacy issue is a legitimate one. You should send messages directly to the user who is doing you the favor. This can be done from their profile page. It can also be done on the favor negotiation page after a favor is "accepted". In the meantime, I've removed your son's name and address.

Posted in forum:Site Improvements - privacy

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
One thing I am planning to do is add a small textbox for each favor on the "Edit my Favorlist" page. This will make it easier to add details for each favor, as well as make it obvious that details are a good idea and help others decide if they can do a favor for someone or not.

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
Ideally each user would put in details for a favor. There's two ways to add details for a favor. 1. On the "Edit my Favorlist" page you click on the name of the favor you want to add details for. Then you are taken to a form where you can add those. 2. On the favor negotiating page you can click on edit details and add more descriptions. However to answer your question - No. If you are responding to a favor you can only ask what they want in your message. It's not a binding process, so if you can't provide what they want, then you don't have to do anything.

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
Eugene, We could say that one credit equals one dollar as a rule of thumb. One day I'm hoping to create incentive items that people can use to trade their credits for. This will increase the favor activity as people earn credits to use on whatever item is being offered for incentive. Of course, right now this site has a very limited budget. Those incentives would also put a value on each favor credit, and I'm not sure it would be a dollar per credit. However that may be a great rule of thumb as we get started here.

RE: Christmas Gift Exchange
One thought I've had is to have voluntary gift exchange groups. The groups would be based on the type of gift exchanged. For example one group could be a "$5 gift card group", another one could be the "Toddler Toys for Boys" group, etc. We could pick a day where each member of a group will receive a random address of another member and then a few days later each member will mail their gift. Members could join as many groups as they want. What does everyone think??

Posted in forum:I want a favor - Christmas Gift Exchange

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
Smokymist, Great question too. The cost of Favorlist's favors are "market driven". Basically, when you offer to do a favor or request a favor from another member you "negotiate" the favor with them. You send messages back and forth to agree on the time for the favor to be performed as well as how many credits it should cost. Over time, members will decide how much favors should cost and create a market to say the average cost for X favor should be $Y. So it's up to you how much favors cost! :)

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
Eugene, This is a great question. What happens is when a user negotiates and puts in a price more than the amount of credits the other user has, they see a notification on the screen that the amount is more than the user has. I'm also making each user's balance visible on their profile. So you can scroll over their name and image, or go to their profile to see their balance of favor credits.

Posted in forum:How Does It Work? - I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?

RE: I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
Actually it's pretty simple. 1. Negotiate the favor (Click on Do Favor/Request Favor) 2. Once either you or the other user "accepts" the favor, you will see places for you to leave feedback and upload the photos on the same page you use to negotiate/accept favors 3. Upload the photo using the upload photo form. 4. Your uploaded photo will appear in the favors photo album, your personal photo album, and on that favor. Remember to get the favor validated and get credit (Including the current starbucks promotion), you must 1. Do the favor 2. Have both members leave feedback for the other 3. Have both members upload different photos of the favor being done. Then we will transfer the favor credits and send the starbucks card to the user who performed the favor.

SAFETY
There have been questions recently about safety issues and favorlist.com. Please note that as part of the terms and conditions, favorlist is not responsible for anything that might happen when two members meet. Be smart and be safe. Here are some tips for safety when using favorlist.com. (Member submissions are also welcome here) DOING FAVORS: 1. Bring someone with you. Have twice the fun and be safe. There actually IS safety in numbers. 2. Review the member's feedback and forum posts (if available). RECEIVING FAVORS: 1. Also, DON'T be alone. Have someone with you when you are receiving a favor. 2. Be careful and smart with the favor you receive. If you don't know the person, maybe they shouldn't be watching your kids! 3. Also review the member's feedback and forum posts (if available). We want to create a safe and positive experience for everyone involved. Giving and receiving favors will not only give you warm fuzzy feelings in your heart, you will be making a difference in other people's lives. Be smart and be safe and be generous! Be smart, be safe, and make sure to review each members feedback and forum posts. Another tip - don't be alone when you receive a favor. We will have a safety forum soon with tips and advice for giving and receiving favors safely.

Christmas Gift Exchange
We're seeing an interest for members who would like to exchange gifts. I want to ask our membership for their input. I think we can add gift favors for certain monetary caps or ranges such as $5 or $10. We can also specify gender and age. Currently we only have favors listed for toddlers, tweens, and a general category. What does everyone think??

RE: General Faq
We haven't "declared" a shipping policy. We would love for input from our members. Maybe we can hold a vote of some kind. My initial impression is that it's much easier for the person sending the item to pay for shipping. Not only are you right there, but it may prove difficult to collect funds from the member receiving the item. In the future we may be able to collect those costs for our members in advance of sending shipped favors.

I'm new to Favorlist...How does it work?
First of all Welcome! You've joined a great community of goodhearted people who want to do favors for each other. So how does it work?
1. Register - Sign up. You will validate your email address and check off the favors you are willing to do as well as the favors you want.
2. Search for favors - Look at the favorlist on the main page. You will see favors that people want, as well as favors that are available for you. Once you find one that interests you, click on 'Do Favor' or 'Request Favor'.
3. Negotiate the Favor - Once you select 'Do Favor' or 'Request Favor', you will see the favor negotiation page. On this page you will 'negotiate' the amount of favor credits as well as the date the favor should take place. Once you complete the form, an email will be sent to the poster with a link to the favor negotiation page. Once they go to the page, they will see a similar form they can use to respond to you. The responses go back and forth until someone selects the 'Accept' button.
4. Do the favor - Once the favor is accepted, do (or receive) the favor.
5. Get Validated - Use the link on the home page to have us send you a verification code to your cell phone. This helps us ensure you are a real person. If you do this step, the rest of the steps are optional!
6. Give feedback and post photos - If both members are not verified (step 5), then in order to complete the favor and get it validated both members need to go back to the favor negotiation page and leave feedback for the other member. Additionally both members have to post photos of the favor being done (this is what helps validate it actually occured - and it's also nice for other members to see).
7. Favor Review and Validation - For non-verified members, once the feedback and photos are posted, we will internally validate the favor, transfer the favor credits and send out whatever rewards are appropriate. Currently this means our $5 Stabucks gift card promotion.
It's that simple!

General Faq
Welcome to FavorList! We hope you find our site useful and even addicting! We're encouraging people to do favors for one another, and we believe we can set up an amazing system of favors for people who need it. "Doing unto others" can be a really rewarding experience. We can't wait to read all the testimonials of people who've given and received favors. So let the FavorList begin! [b:87fae759ca]How does it work?[/b:87fae759ca] It's very simple. You register. Select the favors you are willing to do, and select the favors you want. Then search the favorlist to see who needs a favor you're willing to do, or who's willing to do a favor that you need. You negotiate a price (in favor credits) and a time to do the favor with the other member. When the favor is complete, you'll leave feedback about the other member. Once the favor passes our internal review process we'll transfer the credits to the account of the person who did the favor. And that person can use those credits to buy more favors! [b:87fae759ca]What is the internal review process?[/b:87fae759ca] In order to promote fairness and safety for all our members, we need to validate that every favor that is claimed to have been performed is actually performed. There are two options available for getting your favor reviewed successfully. [list:87fae759ca]1. Each member will upload a different photo showing the favor being performed. This method is available for all members, is easy, and lets others see your hard work! 2. Alternatively both members can submit themselves for a one-time validation. This method requires a text-message capable cell phone. This will allow us to verify that you are a real member. We will send a verification code to your cell phone, that you will enter online to validate that you are a real person with a real cell phone account. You can still posts photos of favors, but you will not be required to do so as long as both members are validated. [/list:u:87fae759ca] [b:87fae759ca]What kind of favors are available?[/b:87fae759ca] Nearly anything you can think of. We are a community-driven site and allow our members to submit favors to be added to the list. Once these are validated by our moderators to be legal as well as not sexual in nature, they are added to the list. [b:87fae759ca]Tell me about the Favor Credits[/b:87fae759ca] When you register, you receive an initial quantity of 100 favor credits. You can earn an additional 100 favor credits by getting validated (option 2 of the internal review process). The cost of each favor is market-driven in our community, and vary by favor. When you reach an agreement to receive a favor, the credits are deducted from your account and go into “escrow” until the favor passes the internal review. Once the favor passes the credits are moved into the account of the member who performed the favor. [b:87fae759ca]What incentives do you offer?[/b:87fae759ca] In an effort to promote the exchange of favors on our site we offer promotions and incentives such as contests and items that can be purchased with your favor credits. This is our initial FAQ. Please check this forum as more questions are asked and answered here. God Bless and Happy Favorlisting!!! -Stephen
